This class covers various throwing techniques for the beginning to the more advanced pottery student. Beginning students will learn basic throwing methods, clay types, firing methods and glazing. More advanced students will work on improving throwing, firing and glazing skills. Demonstrations and one-on-one attention will be provided by the instructor. Lab fee covers all clay, glaze, related materials and all firings.

This class wil focus on some basic drawing skills in pen, pencil and ink focusing mainly on using texturing techniques to build a drawing. We will also focus on the use of color media (watercolor and colored pencil, as well as non-waterproof pen & inn with dip pens and water and brush) Personal attention given to each student's needs, level and goals. A material's list will be provided upon class registration.

Working from the nude model and using natural fire clay, students will find their own way to represent the figure both as sculptural from and to express the life within the body. Students will learn basic or advanced techniques. This course will include the dynamics of making, wholeness of design, sculptural space, structure of the figure and media options. All materials and model fees are included in the price of tuition.

Drawing for watercolor will focus on four two-week projects: a landscape, an interior, an architectural composition and an abstraction, which may be done with or without figures. Personal style rather than photographic likeness is the object of the class.

We will look at perspective and how the geometry of shapes organic and man made can lead the viewer into a painting. The class will meet Wednesday afternoons so there will be the possibility of attending the morning drawing from the model sessions though it is not a requirement.

Learn the basic of laying out a presentation book for children's publishing. A must for aspiring children's illustrators, and for those wishing to show their book concept to publishers. Students are expected to have a book concept and some skills as an artist. A sketchbook will be needed for each class.

Fairy tales are normally placed in ages past, however this class will explore the timeless themes in fairy tales, and transform them into modern tales of magic and wonder. The students will choose a fairy tale at the beginning, an over the course of the class will re-interpret the story in his or her own artistic vision. Intermediate or greater drawing skill will be expected from all students. A sketchbook will be needed for each class.

In this class, students will learn techniques for creating captivating faeries. Intermediate drawing skill will be required by students, as well as a love for these marvelous creatures. A sketchbook will be needed for each class.

BASIC SKETCHING & DRAWING with Alba Scott

Sketching is fundamental to any form of art and indeed a medium in itself. Basic drawing techniques will be taught. Instruction includes how to simplify a scene and create a pleasing design. The class includes a demonstration in pen & ink and also pencil. A materials list will be provided upon registration.

MOHAWK VALLEY ARTIST'S OPEN STUDIO

9 AM - Noon
$5 model fee per class
KAC members can participate in this weekly open studio with a nude model. A $5 per class fee is required to cover the expense of the model. There is no instructor for these open studio sessions and artists are free to work at their leisure.

BEGINNING METALSMITHING FOR JEWELRY with Lisa Oristian

In this class, students will learn the basic metalsmithing techniques necessary to create jewelry. These include annealing and soldering, texturing metal by hammering and other means, utilizing small hand tools, sawing and piercing, chain making and setting stones in bezel settings. Students may purchase metals from the instructor at an additional cost.
INTERMEDIATE METALWORKING FOR JEWELRY with Lisa Oristian

In this class, students with prior metalworking experience will build on existing skills to learn more advanced techniques in metalwork for jewelry. Students will learn various kinds of rivets and other types of cold connections, etching, Keum-boo (fusing gold to silver), hollow jewelry, reticulation and working with acrylic/Plexiglas. Students may purchase metals from the instructor at an additional cost.

In this workshop you will receive materials to construct a bracelet length of the featured chain, information and instructions on how and where to order more wire for continued chain-making and a copy of the instructions for the featured chain. No previous experience is required and all tools are provided for use during the workshop.
